Oprah is shut out...again! No Oscar love for Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Lee Daniels or their $100 million blockbuster The Butler. The surprise box office smash received no Oscar nominations. Other snubs included Chadwick Boseman for 42, Michael B. Jordan for Fruitvale Station and Idris Elba in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. The news is much better for 12 Years A Slave with 10 nominations strong including Best Picture, Best Actor (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong), Best Director (Steve McQueen) and Best Adapted Screenplay (John Ridley). Other nominees include Barkhad Abdi (supporting actor for Captain Phillips) and Pharrell Williams (original song for Despicable Me II). Another film that I loved was nominated for Best Documentary. 20 Feet From Stardom tells the story of those unsung background vocalists who are heard on hundreds of our favorite songs by Luther Vandross, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner and David Bowie, just to name a few. Those incredibly talented singers have always gone so unappreciated, and never got the full spotlight they deserved. The movie features Lisa Fischer (How Can I Ease The Pain) and the legendary Singer/Actress Darlene Love (Lethal Weapon; He's a Rebel). Comedienne Ellen DeGeneres returns to host The 86th Annual Academy Awards March 2nd on ABC.

Meanwhile, the news was better for The Butler with The SAG Award nominations
along with 12 Years A Slave. Actors Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) and Forest Whitaker (The Butler) received Lead Actor Nominations and Oprah Winfrey (The Butler) and Lupita Nyong (12 Years A Slave) received Supporting Actress. The SAG Awards air on TBS and TNT this Saturday.

The 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards will air February 22nd on its new home TV ONE.

Men Throw Away Your Condoms....after you finish! This is straight from Actress Gabrielle Union. Union, the star of the hit BET drama Being Mary Jane, gave an interview to Glamour magazine where she stated men should throw away their condoms so that woman won’t keep their sperm from the condoms and get pregnant. Union is engaged to NBA Superstar Dwyane Wade. The couple recently made headlines when it was revealed Wade just had a baby with another woman while he and Union were on a short break. Union is standing by her man. She says she blames herself for this predicament because she was too focused on her career and not on her relationship with Wade. She says her career ambitions put a strain on their love.

Bobbi Kris is a married woman, and grandmother, Cissy Houston, is not happy. Bobbi Kris, 20, married her play brother Nick Gordon, 24, a couple of weeks ago. Bobbi Kris is due to inherit a lot of money from the estate of her mother, the late Whitney Houston. Bobbi Kris’s
dad, Bobby Brown, was not invited to the nuptials. Cissy Houston and Bobbi Kris have been on the outs since Cissy wrote a tell-all about Whitney Houston. Cissy says who marries their adopted brother?!!! Bobbi Kris and Nick were raised as play brother and sister by Whitney, and family members feel Nick married Bobbi Kris for her money and not for love. What would Whitney think?!!!!

Our prayers and get well wishes go out to Broadway Star Valisia LeKae. The 34-year old entertainer had to take a leave of absence from Motown: The Musical as she battles ovarian cancer. LeKae played Diana Ross in the show. I had a chance to meet the talented actress when I saw the musical, and she was absolutely wonderful. LeKae was amazing in her role, and I hope she will be able to return to performing. Let’s keep her in prayer.
